A ROYAL AFFAIR is the true story of an ordinary man who wins the queen's heart and starts a revolution. Centering on the intriguing love triangle between the ever more insane Danish King Christian VII (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard), the royal physician who is a man of enlightenment and idealism Struensee (Mads Mikkelsen) and the young but strong Queen Caroline Mathilda (Alicia Vikander), A ROYAL AFFAIR is the gripping tale of brave idealists who risk everything in their pursuit of freedom for their people… Above all it is the story of a passionate and forbidden romance that changed an entire nation.

A perfect blend of artistic expression in love, politics, royalty with a dash of PASSION. A wonderful film!
Thoroughly riveting--beautifully crated, artfully executed--with shades of DANGEROUS LIAISONS.
Can't have enough books and movies promoting reason and enlightenment.

This was outstanding: powerful, captivating, absolutely magnificent.
Great picture; exquisite acting; very interesting because [it is] historic.
The cinematography was superb, beautifully framed. I appreciated the historic accuracy. The queen from the beginning portrayed a strong woman.

Powerful, engaging, historically educational and relevant today.
Thank you for bringing this to Milwaukee! I am so pleased that I could see it here instead of going to the Chicago Film Festival.
Exquisitely photographed period piece that expertly intermingles a political and a love story. Acting was fantastic.

I really loved it!! What a story. Mads Mikkelsen as the doctor was terrific. Costumes were fantastic. Hope we get to see many more like this. Thank you.

Great story. The film had the look of a Danish masterpiece painting. Loved the symbolism of Dr. Streunsee's passion for helping the peasants, only to be betrayed by the people in the end.

Wonderful music. Long but never dragging or boring.

I really liked this one - I didn't even mind the length of it. thought it was beautiful to watch - beautiful scenery, etc. wonderful historical cinema - and period i was not educated on.
I really enjoyed a story about which I knew nothing. The scenes were wonderful, beautiful. A lovely film - got lost in it.
Beautifully filmed period piece with wonderful costimes and settings. Expected this to be a 'chick flick' based on the initial description, but it was not. Never realized that Denmark was so much behind the times relative to many of its European neighbors in mid 18th century.
